Principal’s Message

Thank you for choosing to find out more about St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania. As principal of the school, and a Doctor of Education I believe learning is a lifelong process of human growth and change. I am passionate about providing a holistic education for every student across all domains: academic, social, emotional, spiritual and physical.

Our teachers, as leaders of learning, ensure they provide learning experiences that are accessible to every child and give them the opportunity to grow. Learning is contemporary, engaging, collaborative and taps into students’ intrinsic motivation to be curious and identify problems as well as solve them.

We are a ‘School-wide Positive Behaviours for Learning’ (SPBL) community of teachers and parents who strive to explicitly teach students to be respectful, responsible and safe.

As a Catholic educator, we provide opportunities for students to develop their faith firmly believing in the home, school and parish partnership. It is essential that if we are to foster children’s knowledge and understanding of their faith, that they see evidence of adults who are participating in worship and showing commitment to their faith.

I look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

Dr Michelle Court

Principal

History
It was in 1950 that Fr Patrick Carr, Parish Priest of Revesby, purchased three acres of land in Tower Street, Panania to provide a centre for a new parish. By 1953 a church-school had been built on the site, and with Fr Patrick Landers as Priest-in-charge, the Sisters of St Joseph, already known in the nearby areas of Bankstown and Revesby, agreed to run the school.
St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania opened in 1955 with 122 children in Kindergarten, first class and second class. Since this date, the original church-school has been replaced by modern new facilities, and lay principals have been running the school since 1995.

Charism
We are proud of our deep connection to the Josephite Sisters and aspire, in the words of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop to ‘never see a need without doing something about it.’ We also seek to live by the words of Australia’s patron saint to ‘find happiness by making others happy’.
Team spirit is very much part of the ethos of St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania and there is a high expectation that all staff, students and parents work cooperatively to make a positive contribution to the life of the school and to give their best.
The school motto is ‘Caritas’, meaning love and service.

Vision
The spirit and ideals of St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania are expressed in our vision, ‘global leaders in learning and innovation, loving like Christ’.

Mission
In keeping with the virtues of our Catholic faith, we are called to know every student, to inspire them, to follow the example of Jesus, and empower them with the knowledge and skills they need to live purposeful, meaningful lives.

Principles
Our principles stand at the core of who we are and what we do.  The things we value most are:

  • Attentiveness
  • Challenge
  • Collaboration
  • Creativity
  • Faith
  • Growth
  • Relationships
  • Resilience

The community of St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania is one of welcome and acceptance, and the link between the school and the parish is particularly strong.

St Christopher’s includes the wider community in its day-to-day activities. Many opportunities exist for involvement in the life of the school, and contributions from parents, grandparents and other community members in a range of activities are always warmly welcomed.

The school is also directly involved in supporting those in need in our local community and our families are keen to give back to the community and work in partnership with various charities. The Sacramental program is lead by the parish Sacramental team and is very strongly supported by our school staff.
